East Valley recap October 29, 2013
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Verdugo Hills, who defeated 617th ranked Poly, 48-42.
Grant added to the longest winning streak in East Valley this week by beating Monroe, 49-15. The victory was the fourth in a row for the team.
Jonathon Porter provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Arleta fell to Sylmar. He completed 12 passes for 245 yards and 3 touchdowns and also ran for 3 yards. Porter's key target this week was Isaiah Gable, who caught 6 passes for 167 yards.
DALESHAWN JACKSON threw for 151 yards and 4 touchdowns. He went 9-14 with 0 interceptions.
LUIS MEZA-CORNEJO made the biggest impact on defense this week as Grant bested the Vikings. He racked up 2 sacks.
JACKSON and DRAKE A CALDWELL gave Rudy Delatorre's team a balanced attack in passing and rushing last week. CHRISTOPHER C GENTRY also contributed to the rushing game with 84 yards on the ground.
The Dons' Mark Powell and Carter Otte led the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-1 quarterback Powell has thrown for 1,694 yards this season, while Otte has 48 catches for 901 yards. The Lancers' GENTRY leads the league in rushing yards with 694.
Verdugo Hills' Otte needs only 99 receiving yards against the Mustangs to crack 1,000 for the season. So far this year, he has garnered 48 catches for 901 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Arleta takes on Chad Runnels' team. Dan Kelley's team is currently in first, while the Dons are in fourth.
Verdugo Hills scaled the state rankings by moving to 812 from 849 this week, the biggest jump in East Valley. The Dons were able to move up by beating the Parrots 48-42.
