The Pleasant Grove Eagles's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their fifth straight loss. They fell 67-58 to Elk Grove. The match was a 25-25 toss-up at halftime, but Pleasant Grove was outscored by Elk Grove in the second.
Pleasant Grove's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lionel Williamson, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 14 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Nathan Ruff, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds.
It was another big night for Vinny Gonzales, who scored 30 points for Elk Grove. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Gonzales has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Noah Hargrave, who scored ten points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Pleasant Grove's defeat dropped their record down to 9-12. As for Elk Grove, their win ended a six-game drought on the road and puts them at 9-13.
Pleasant Grove will face off against Franklin at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Franklin has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 544 points over their last eight contests. As for Elk Grove, they will be playing at home against Davis Sr. at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Davis Sr. is hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses.
