The Goretti Gael won the last time they faced the Shalom Christian Academy Flames, and things went their way on Thursday too. Goretti walked away with a 59-48 victory over Shalom Christian Academy. Given Goretti's advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 49th in Maryland, while Shalom Christian Academy is ranked 136th in Pennsylvania), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Goretti got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Danica Bennett out in front who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds. Bennett continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Kilah Dandridge, who scored 12 points along with five assists.
Shalom Christian Academy's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Addison Adams, who scored 16 points along with nine rebounds and five assists. Madison Moretti was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with seven rebounds.
The win makes it two in a row for Goretti and bumps their season record up to 9-6. As for Shalom Christian Academy, their loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 6-5.
Goretti will square off against Berlin Brothersvalley at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday. Berlin Brothersvalley will be looking to extend their current nine-game winning streak. Shalom Christian Academy won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against New Life Christian at 5:15 p.m. on January 12th. New Life Christian comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
