The Three Forks/Willow Creek Wolves will head out on the road to face off against the Malta/Whitewater/Saco/Dodson Mustangs on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Wednesday, Three Forks/Willow Creek got themselves on the board against Sweet Grass County, but Sweet Grass County never followed suit. They took their matchup on the road with ease, bagging a 62-0 victory over the Sheepherders. The victory was just what Three Forks/Willow Creek needed coming off of a 54-30 defeat in their prior contest.
Three Forks/Willow Creek relied on the efforts of Colten Hayder , who gained 140 total yards and two touchdowns, and Shane Williams, who threw for 170 yards and three touchdowns. Hayder was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 65 yards. Sawyer Andersen also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Another reason for the win was Three Forks/Willow Creek's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for seven sacks. Leading the way was Marcus Pestel and his two sacks.
Meanwhile, Malta/Whitewater/Saco/Dodson had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 33.3 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Fairfield/Augusta 45-18 on the road.
Malta/Whitewater/Saco/Dodson got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Treyton Wilke out in front who picked up 192 receiving yards and three touchdowns. The team also got some help courtesy of Stockton Oxarart, who threw for 308 yards and four touchdowns while completing 78.6% of his passes.
Their wins bumped Three Forks/Willow Creek to 6-3 and Malta/Whitewater/Saco/Dodson to 5-4.
We should be in store for an exciting game Saturday as both teams have no problem gaining yardage. Three Forks/Willow Creek has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 429.1 total yards per game. However, it's not like Malta/Whitewater/Saco/Dodson struggles in that department as they've been averaging 398 per game. With a pair of commanding offenses duking it out, the defenses are going to have their work cut out for them.
