The Bellaire Big Reds's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their fourth straight loss. They fell to Shadyside 59-54. Bellaire was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Shadyside apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.
When it comes to explaining why Bellaire lost, one person who can't be blamed is Mac Pettigrew. Despite the final result, he scored 35 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Pettigrew has scored all season. Maurice Webb was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Bellaire has not been sharp recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-9 record this season. As for Shadyside, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-6.
Bellaire will head out on the road to face off against Martins Ferry at 6:05 p.m. on Wednesday. Martins Ferry presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Bellaire in Ohio (Martins Ferry is ranked 237th, while Bellaire is ranked 581st). As for Shadyside, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Buckeye Local at 7:30 p.m.
