CLOVIS, Calif. - After taking the lead in the fourth quarter,
Liberty (Bakersfield, Calif.) held on for a 25-23 victory over
Clovis (Calif.) on Saturday. The difference for the Patriots was it scored a defensive touchdown.
The Cougars pulled ahead on a field goal by
Jake Poindexter, and subsequently went into halftime leading 10-6. The Patriots took the lead for good with a defensive touchdown in the fourth quarter.
Despite scoring zero points in the third, Liberty still trailed by 11 points going into the fourth quarter. But 19 points in the fourth helped LHS pull out the victory.
The Bakersfield school got 12 points from its defense on the way to victory.
Marlon Watkins made a difference for Clovis. The junior running back ran for two touchdowns. His performance brought his touchdown total to four on the year.
The Patriots' standout player in the win was
Josh Medina. The junior quarterback threw two touchdowns. He has now scored three touchdowns on the season.
The loss comes after Clovis defeated Clovis West 28-16 last week. With the win Liberty extended its winning streak to four games.
