Waverly is a perfect 3-0 against Platteview since March of 2023 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Vikings will challenge the Trojans at 4:30 p.m. Waverly is coming into the contest on a five-game losing streak dating back to last season.
On Saturday, Waverly didn't have quite enough to beat Westview and fell 5-4.
Waverly got a good showing from Kael Lade, who tossed four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits.
At the plate, Carsen Malcolm and Evan Harstick stepped up to the plate in a big way. Malcolm went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI, while Harstick went 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Platteview had to kick off their season on the road on Saturday, but they showed no ill effects. Everything went their way against Douglas County West as they made off with a 13-1 victory.
Tucker Riha looked comfortable as he struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2025.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Dylan Thomas, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Easton Harris, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Platteview always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .543. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Douglas County West only posted an OBP of .286.
Waverly's defeat dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Platteview, their record now sits at 1-0.
Waverly skirted past Platteview 3-2 when the teams last played back in March of 2025. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Vikings since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
