The Simi Valley Pioneers pushed their score all the way to 55 on Wednesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 56-55 to Agoura. Simi Valley was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Agoura apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January.
Defeat or not, Simi Valley got some senior leadership from Ryder Mjoen who scored 27 points and Justin Rener who scored 17 points. Mjoen scored a full 49.1% of Simi Valley's points, the eighth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Kyle Hoffer was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with six rebounds.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Agoura to victory, but perhaps none more so than Mathis Simonet, who scored ten points along with five rebounds and four steals. Those four steals set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Ethan Klopp, who scored 16 points.
Simi Valley has not been sharp recently, as they've lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-5 record this season. As for Agoura, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Simi Valley will face off against Westlake at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Westlake has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 543 points over their last eight matches. Agoura will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Oak Park at 7:00 p.m. on December 8th. Oak Park presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Agoura in California (Oak Park is ranked 108th, while Agoura is ranked 466th).
