The Cuero Gobblers had already proven themselves in the regular season, and didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They walked away with a 44-33 win over Hamshire-Fannett on Friday. The win was just business as usual for Cuero, who after 12 games remain undefeated this season.
Cuero had a senior duo take command as Kenneth Jackson gained 85 total yards and three touchdowns and Mason Notaro threw for 143 yards and two touchdowns.
When it comes to explaining why Hamshire-Fannett lost, one person who can't be blamed is Chris Augustine. Despite the final result, he rushed for 180 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 9.0 yards per carry. Augustine was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 66 yards. Braxton Starnes was another key contributor, picking up 114 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Cuero's victory bumped their record up to 12-0. As for Hamshire-Fannett, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-2.
Cuero will head out on the road to face off against Jasper at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Jasper is on a four-game streak of home wins, Cuero a nine-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season)-- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the field. Hamshire-Fannett does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
