The Lamar Texans will square off against the Cesar E. Chavez Lobos at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Lamar sitting on four straight victories and Cesar E. Chavez on five.
If Lamar beats Cesar E. Chavez with 16 runs on Thursday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two matchups with that exact score. Everything went the Texans' way against Westside on Saturday as they made off with a 16-1 win. The Texans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by seven runs or more this season.
Maureen Faustermann was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two triples, three runs, and two RBI. Those two triples gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Margot Royston, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Lamar kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in four consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Cesar E. Chavez hadn't done well against Heights recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Lobos came out on top against the Bulldogs by a score of 7-4.
Ava Castillo - 2026 spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up eight Ks.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Izarely Almaguer - 2026, who went 3-for-4 with four runs, one triple, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Daniela Rivera - 2027, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Lamar's victory bumped their record up to 11-1. As for Cesar E. Chavez, their win bumped their record up to 8-6.
Thursday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Lamar hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .474. However, it's not like Cesar E. Chavez struggles in that department as they've averaged .357. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Lamar might still be hurting after the 9-1 loss they got from Cesar E. Chavez when the teams last played back in March. Will the Texans have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
