West Valley recap Oct. 30, 2012
Birmingham extended the longest winning streak in West Valley this week by beating Cleveland, 27-3. The victory was the fourth in a row for the team.
Trae Smith and Isaiah Hastings gave Birmingham a balanced attack through the air and ground last week. Smith threw for 67 yards and two touchdowns, while Hastings ran for 181 yards. Teammate Sterling Salguero added to the ground attack by rushing for 26 yards.
Bryson Bowman was the best wideout in the league this week as Granada Hills lost to El Camino Real. Bowman tallied three receptions for 69 yards. Sebastian Camacho helped Granada Hills' passing attack out by catching one ball for six yards.
On the ground, the Cavaliers' Joshua Anderson has rushed for 827 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Japheth Pleasant. The Cleveland star has 29 catches for 470 yards.
A big matchup in West Valley this week will be when Cleveland takes on the Highlanders. At the moment, Vince Johnson's team is in third, while Granada Hills is in second.
The Conquistadors made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 7,570 from 7,850. The improvement came about via a 17-14 victory over Billy Parra's team last week.
