The Tonkawa Buccaneers will venture away from home to face off against the Frontier Mustangs at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On Tuesday, Tonkawa needed a bit of extra time to put away Newkirk. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-8 victory over the Tigers. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Buccaneers.
Cayden Duvall was excellent, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Brett Shepherd, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI.
Meanwhile, Frontier had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Monday. They blew past the Panthers 17-7. Considering the Mustangs have won six contests by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Noah Farmer made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Luke Draffin, who went 1-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season. Lane Thompson was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Tonkawa's record now sits at 15-7. As for Frontier, their record is now 8-11.
Thursday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Tonkawa has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .432. However, it's not like Frontier struggles in that department as they've averaged .444. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
