Spruce hasn't had much luck against North Mesquite recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Timberwolves will head out on the road to square off against the Stallions at 5:00 p.m. North Mesquite took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Spruce, who comes in off a win.
Spruce made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Seagoville, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Timberwolves put the hurt on the Dragons with a sharp 21-9 win on Tuesday. The Timberwolves' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Marlene D. was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up three earned (and five unearned) runs off nine hits (and only one walk). D. was even better at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. She also put up two hits, which were her first of the season.
In other batting news, Starla J was a standout: she scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Those hits marked the first that she got this season. Another player making a difference was Madison S., who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Spruce always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .818. The last time their OBP was this high was back in February of 2024.
Meanwhile, North Mesquite was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They came up short against West Mesquite, falling 19-5.
North Mesquite saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alysa Garza, who went 1-for-2 with one triple. Destiny Arias was another, scoring a run while getting on base in both of her plate appearances.
North Mesquite's defeat dropped their record down to 5-21. As for Spruce, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-11.
Spruce suffered a grim 18-0 defeat to North Mesquite in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Timberwolves avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
