The Steubenville Big Red waltzed into their matchup Friday with five straight wins but they left with six. They walked away with a 51-40 victory over East Liverpool. Given Steubenville's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 95th, while East Liverpool is ranked 428th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Steubenville found their leader in underclassman Nylah Mcshan, who scored 22 points along with eight rebounds and four steals. The match was Mcshan's 11th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Paige Matteson, who scored five points along with five assists and three steals.
Steubenville's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-2. As for East Liverpool, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-6 record this season.
Steubenville will be playing at home against Oak Glen at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. East Liverpool's road trip will continue as they head out to face Wellsville at 6:00 p.m. on January 3, 2024.
