Avery hasn't had much luck against Linden-Kildare recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Bulldogs will head out on the road to challenge the Tigers at 6:00 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Avery took a 17-run loss the last time they faced off against Harts Bluff, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Avery skirted past Harts Bluff 7-6. The victory was some much needed relief for Avery as it spelled an end to their five-game losing streak.
Reyna Baird was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Avery hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four batters in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Linden-Kildare, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Bowie on Saturday, sneaking past 6-4.
A Whatley spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on four hits.
On the hitting side, Linden-Kildare's win was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was J Mack, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run. Another was K Roberts, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run.
Avery's victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-8 and their overall record up to 3-12. As for Linden-Kildare, the win got them back to even at 10-10-1.
Avery suffered a grim 16-3 defeat to Linden-Kildare in their previous matchup back in February. Can the Bulldogs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
