The Heritage Academy Patriots will be taking part in a tournament against the Lawrence County Cougars at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Heritage Academy is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.
Heritage Academy is headed into the matchup having just suffered their closest loss since February 8, 2024 on Saturday. They fell just short of St. Stanislaus by a score of 4-2.
Heritage Academy saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Adyn Westmoreland, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI. Kaden Avery also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Even though they lost, Heritage Academy hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as St. Stanislaus struck out eight times.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lawrence County). Everything went their way against McComb on Friday as Lawrence County made off with a 16-1 win. Considering the Cougars have won four games by more than nine runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Caden Case made a splash while hitting and pitching. He tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Josh Sandifer, who scored two runs while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Tyne Calcote was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
Heritage Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 3-7. As for Lawrence County, their victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-5.
Tuesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Heritage Academy has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .431. However, it's not like Lawrence County struggles in that department as they've averaged .488. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
