Osceola is 2-8 against the Mustangs since February of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Osceola Bulldogs will head out on the road to square off against the Meridian Mustangs at 5:55 p.m. Osceola is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak.
Last Tuesday, Osceola was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 40-34 to the Eagles.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Emma Recker, who scored 13 points along with four steals. Courtney Sunday was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with seven rebounds.
Meanwhile, Meridian scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They put the hurt on High Plains with a sharp 64-44 victory. The win made it back-to-back wins for Meridian.
Meridian's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ana Dimas, who scored 16 points along with eight assists and four steals. It was the first time this season that Dimas posted eight or more assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaylee Sobotka, who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Osceola's loss ended a seven-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 8-6. As for Meridian, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a massive bump to their 9-8 record this season.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Osceola have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 26.6 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Meridian struggles in that department as they've been averaging 28.9 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Osceola came up short against the Mustangs when the teams last played back in February of 2023, falling 33-21. Can Osceola avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
