The Greenville Comets's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight loss. They fell just short of Carlinville by a score of 45-42. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss Greenville has suffered against Carlinville since December 15, 2016.
Greenville lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Shayna Henderson, who scored 14 points along with six steals. Henderson hasn't dropped below two steals for 16 straight games. Emma Veith was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with seven rebounds.
Greenville's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-9. As for Carlinville, they are on a roll lately: they've won 15 of their last 17 games, which provided a nice bump to their 20-5 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Greenville will square off against Litchfield at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Litchfield will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings (they are ranked 605th, while Greenville is ranked 150th). Carlinville will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against Roxana at 11:00 a.m. on January 27th.
