The Benedictine Bengals will head out to take on the Madison Blue Streaks at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Benedictine 3.9, Madison 2.9) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Things were looking good for Benedictine after they put the first run on the board on Monday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They took a 6-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of Solon. The Bengals have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Jackson Stoltz was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. Joe Morse was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, Madison waltzed into their match on Monday with four straight wins... but they left with five. Everything went their way against the Skippers as they made off with an 11-2 win. Considering the Blue Streaks have won 12 games by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Evan Smith made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 11 over four innings pitched. Smith was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Madison let NathaN YarNell and Ben Amos run wild. Yarnell went 1-for-2 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run, while Amos went 2-for-5 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Yarnell is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Brendan Titman, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Madison's victory bumped their record up to 13-3. As for Benedictine, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-9.
Benedictine came out on top in a nail-biter against Madison in their previous meeting back in April of 2023, sneaking past 5-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bengals since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
