If the Bethel Christian Kings were riding high off their 78-49 takedown of the Cornerstone Christian Crusaders last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Bethel Christian took a serious blow against Calvary Baptist on Thursday, falling 67-28. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Bethel Christian has scored all season.
Bethel Christian lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Caden Spencer, who scored six points along with seven rebounds. Another player making a difference was Josh Coba, who scored ten points along with five rebounds and two blocks.
Bethel Christian struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Calvary Baptist's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Andrea Cini led the charge by scoring nine points along with eight assists and eight rebounds. That's the first time this season that Cini pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Martin Malual, who scored ten points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Bethel Christian's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-4. As for Calvary Baptist, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 19-4.
Coincidentally, the pair will both be playing The Grove School the next time they take the court. Bethel Christian will host The Grove School at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, while Calvary Baptist will head out to face them at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
