5A Pioneer recap September 17, 2013
Fans got a thrill when Peyton Remy and Elijah Cherrington connected against Palmer. The connection went for 84 yards, the longest such play in 5A Pioneer this season.
Fountain-Fort Carson's Drue Harris recorded the longest rushing play in the league this season in his game against Rock Canyon last week. Harris' team beat the Jaguars as he sprinted for 91 yards on the play and finished with 268 in all.
Harris provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Fountain-Fort Carson topped Rock Canyon. Harris' key target this week was Ben Deis, who caught 2 passes for 45 yards.
Harris was a beast in the backfield as Mitch Johnson's team defeated Brian Lamb's team.
Harris was the best running back in the league this week. Deion Daily also contributed to the rushing game with 67 yards on the ground.
Kyle Carey was the best wideout in 5A Pioneer this week as Doherty topped Castle View. Carey tallied 9 receptions for 170 yards. Lalo Porras helped Doherty's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 21 yards.
Remy put up the best numbers through the air as Legend bested the Terrors. He finished with a total of 6 completions for 215 yards and 4 touchdowns. Remy's favorite target this week was Cherrington, who caught 3 passes for 148 yards.
He went 6-11 with 0 interceptions.
The leading receiver in the league this season is Carey. The Doherty star has 15 catches for 283 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Heritage takes on the Spartans. The Eagles are currently in fourth, while Doherty is in second.
The Trojans were the team that made the biggest jump in the rankings, moving from seventh to fifth in the league. Fountain-Fort Carson vanquished the Jaguars 47-16 earlier in the week.
