Tygarts Valley and South Harrison are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2017, but not for long. The Tygarts Valley Bulldogs' homestand continues as they prepare to take on the South Harrison Hawks at 6:30 p.m. on February 12th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in West Virginia (Tygarts Valley is ranked 99th, while South Harrison is ranked 75th).
Last Tuesday, Tygarts Valley strolled past Notre Dame with points to spare, taking the game 54-39.
Summer Lewis-Smith was her usual excellent self, scoring 20 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Kailen Yokum, who scored ten points along with four steals.
South Harrison won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Thursday. They were outmatched by Wirt County at home and fell 64-35.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Adalee Wright, who scored five points along with seven rebounds and two steals. Emily Parks was another key contributor, scoring six points along with two steals.
Tygarts Valley has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 5-10 record this season. As for South Harrison, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-9.
Monday's game is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Tygarts Valley have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 31.5 rebounds per game. However, it's not like South Harrison struggles in that department as they've been averaging 31.4 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
