Springville hasn't had much luck against Maple Mountain recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Red Devils will be playing at home against the Eagles at 6:30 p.m. This will be Springville's first chance to prove their worth in the conference.
Springville is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Utah's top teams: Lehi, who was ranked first at the time (Springville was ranked 18th). The Red Devils came up short against the Pioneers on Wednesday, falling 3-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Red Devils have suffered since March 12th.
While Springville was kept off the board, it wasn't for a lack of trying: they cut into Lehi's winning margin in every set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-14, 25-22, 26-24.
Meanwhile, Maple Mountain posted their closest win since March 17th on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out Spanish Fork 3-2. The victory continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Dons: they've now won six in a row.
Maple Mountain got the W, but it wasn't easy, at least in the fourth set. The final score came out to 25-12, 25-16, 21-25, 28-30, 15-9.
Maple Mountain found their leader in sophomore McKay Beattie, who had 25 digs and three aces. Those 25 digs set a new season-high mark for Beattie. Alberto Ripol Roma also deserves some recognition as he had his first dig of the season.
Maple Mountain was lethal from the service line and finished the match with ten aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least five aces in four consecutive matchups.
Springville's loss dropped their record down to 9-7. As for Maple Mountain, their win bumped their record up to 15-3.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Tuesday's contest: Springville has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 4.7 aces per game. However, it's not like Maple Mountain struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.8 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Springville might still be hurting after the 3-0 defeat they got from Maple Mountain in their previous meeting back in April of 2025. Can the Red Devils avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
