The Windermere Prep Lakers will take on the Wekiva Mustangs at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Windermere Prep took a loss when they played away from home last Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They never let Seven Rivers Christian get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory.
Vanessa Nawracaj made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). Nawracaj was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
In other batting news, Sasha Campbell and Cierra Walker did most of the damage at the plate: Campbell scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances, while Walker went 1-for-2 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. Another player making a difference was Kylie Konstand, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Windermere Prep always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .700. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Seven Rivers Christian only posted an OBP of .143.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last game, Wekiva made sure to put some runs up on the board against Edgewater on Thursday. Wekiva was the clear victors by a 19-0 margin over Edgewater. The Mustangs have beaten the Eagles the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Eagles has come to flipping the script.
Like Windermere Prep, Wekiva also got a great game from a two-way player: Arianna Garcia. She struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance gave Garcia a new career-high in strikeouts. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 3-for-3.
In other batting news, Camilla Delgado was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, seven RBI, and two stolen bases. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April of 2024. Janelle Rodriguez was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2.
The win got Wekiva back to even at 1-1. As for Windermere Prep, the victory also got them back to even at 1-1.
Everything went Windermere Prep's way against Wekiva when the teams last played back in April of 2021, as Windermere Prep made off with a 6-0 win. Does Windermere Prep have another victory up their sleeve, or will Wekiva turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
