Baseball Recap: Viewmont Has No Trouble Against Tustin

Viewmont had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 15-run drubbing they dealt Tustin on Monday. Viewmont was the clear victor by a 17-2 margin over Tustin. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Vikings' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

Elias Culley and Kade Marriott made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Culley tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Marriott pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. That's the fewest earned runs he has allowed since back in April of 2024. At the plate, Culley scored four runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances, while Marriott scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. Viewmont is 2-1 when Culley posts two or more runs, but 2-3 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on James Peterson, who went 3-for-5 with six RBI, four runs, and two triples. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in stolen bases (two). Beckham Smith was another key player, scoring four runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in four of his six plate appearances.

Viewmont always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .609. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Tustin only posted an OBP of .344.

The victory got Viewmont back to even at 4-4. As for Tustin, their defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-10-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Viewmont will square off against Woodbridge at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Woodbridge will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Viewmont surely won't give up without a fight. As for Tustin, they will welcome La Serna at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
