NCSSM: Durham is 2-7 against the Firebirds since November of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The NCSSM: Durham Unicorns will be playing at home against the Falls Lake Firebirds at 6:00 p.m. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
NCSSM: Durham had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 40 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They took down Franklin Academy 45-29.
Meanwhile, Falls Lake can now show off nine landslide victories after their most recent matchup on Friday. They took their matchup on the road with ease, bagging a 53-22 win over Raleigh Charter. Given Falls Lake's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 108th, while the Phoenix are ranked 470th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Emerson Thompson continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 19 points and 12 rebounds. Thompson is crushing the rebound category: she's posted at least ten every time she's taken the court this season. Khloe Massengill was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with six rebounds and three steals.
NCSSM: Durham's win bumped their record up to 10-7. As for Falls Lake, they pushed their record up to 21-2 with that victory, which was their 23rd straight on the road dating back to last season.
NCSSM: Durham ended up a good deal behind the Firebirds in their previous matchup back in January, losing 52-38. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Thompson, who dropped a double-double on 27 points and 14 rebounds.
