Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only the Flour Bluff Hornets walked away with it. They walked away with a 52-45 victory over Veterans Memorial on Friday. 52 seems to be a good number for Flour Bluff as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of points in their previous game.
It was another big night for Jayden Paluseo, who rushed for 88 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 236 yards and four touchdowns. Paluseo is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in the last eight games he's played. Jayden Johnson also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Flour Bluff's defensive line stepped up as well, laying out the QB five times. Leading the way was Cristian Arriaga and his two sacks.
The victory (which was Flour Bluff's eighth in a row) raised their record to 9-2. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-10 Porter and 2-9 Rockport-Fulton (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 40.5% over those games). As for Veterans Memorial, their loss dropped their record down to 8-4.
Flour Bluff is on the road again on Friday and play against Liberty Hill. Veterans Memorial does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
