The Sargent Farmers will take on the Dolores Bears at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Sargent is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.2 runs per game this season.
Sargent proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by ten) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Nucla, sneaking past 6-5.
Tytus Atencio was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out nine batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. He has become a key player for Sargent: the team is 5-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 2-4 otherwise. Atencio was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Atencio wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jaycian Sierra, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base. Sierra is becoming a predictor of Sargent's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 4-5 when he doesn't). Another was Paul Neal, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, Dolores came into Friday's contest having lost 12 straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. Everything went their way against Center on Friday as they made off with a 24-7 victory. The Bears' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
The team relied heavily on Wyatt Kiddoo, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with five stolen bases, three runs, and two doubles. What's more, he posted two hits, the most he's had since back in March. Gus Vaughn was another key player, going 3-for-5 with four stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.
Dolores always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .723. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Sargent is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-5 record this season. As for Dolores, their win bumped their record up to 2-15.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Sargent has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 6.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Dolores struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Sargent came out on top in a nail-biter against Dolores in their previous matchup back in March of 2019, sneaking past 6-5. Do the Farmers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bears turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
