The Lanesville Eagles will square off against the Charlestown Pirates at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On Monday, Lanesville was able to grind out a solid victory over Eastern, taking the game 6-3. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Musketeers recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.
Aubrianna Hoten and Makenna Mills made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Hoten tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Mills didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over 4.2 innings pitched. At the plate, Hoten went a perfect 3-for-3 with one RBI, while Mills got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
In other batting news, Lanesville let Madelyn Magner and Brooklyn Albers run wild. Magner went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base, while Albers went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Phoenix Grandmaison also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Lanesville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Eastern only managed two hits.
Meanwhile, Charlestown entered their tilt with Salem on Monday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 2-1 W against the Lions.
Hannah Burns spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Aiden Stewart, who went 1-for-2 with one home run. The team also got some help courtesy of Ella Shaw, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances.
Charlestown pushed their record up to 12-5 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Lanesville, their victory bumped their record up to 7-12.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Lanesville has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Charlestown struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Lanesville suffered a grim 12-2 defeat to Charlestown when the teams last played back in April. Will the Eagles have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
