Football Recap: Jones Comes Up Short in High-Profile Game with Edgewater

Jones faced Edgewater in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Fightin' Tigers fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 20-17. That's two games in a row now that the Fightin' Tigers have lost by exactly three points.

Several Fightin' Tigers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Daunte Wallace, who rushed for 127 yards and one TD. Jones also got help from Larry Miles, who showed off his sure hands for 112 receiving yards.

Edgewater got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Carter Emanuel out in front who threw for 228 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Those 228 passing yards gave Emanuel a new career-high. Edgewater's leading receiver Cole Emanuel was Carter's top target yet again, picking up 105 receiving yards and one score.

This is the second loss in a row for Jones and nudges their season record down to 2-2. Even worse, they were so close both times: the losses came by an average of only three points. As for Edgewater, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-0.

Jones has already played their next matchup, a 28-14 victory against Osceola on the 19th. As for Edgewater, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 35-0 win against Apopka on the 19th.
