The North Buncombe Black Hawks won the last time they faced the Enka Jets, and things went their way on Friday too. North Buncombe came out on top against Enka by a score of 52-39. Given North Buncombe's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 165th, while Enka is ranked 380th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading North Buncombe to victory were Peyton Whitson and Aubrey Gilliland. Whitson scored 14 points along with three steals, while Gilliland scored 14 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Gilliland continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kadence Penley, who scored seven points along with six rebounds and two steals.
North Buncombe's victory bumped their record up to 13-6. As for Enka, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-16.
Coincidentally, both teams will both be playing Asheville the next time they take the court. North Buncombe will head out to face Asheville at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, while Enka will head out to face them at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
