Rincon/University extended their losing streak to four on Thursday, dropping them down to 3-18. They came up short against the Sunnyside Blue Devils, falling 13-4. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Blue Devils this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 18-4 last Tuesday.
Keith Cook was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
As for Sunnyside, they have been performing well recently as they've won 13 of their last 16 contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 14-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games.
On Sunnyside's side, PEDRO LOPEZ was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. LOPEZ has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, MIGUEL CELAYA was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of EMRICK THOMPSON, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Coming up, Rincon/University will be playing in front of their home fans against Flowing Wells at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Sunnyside, they will head out to challenge Catalina Foothills at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Blue Devils' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Falcons have averaged an impressive 8.5 runs per game this season.
