Basketball Recap: Myers Park Comes Up Short

Myers Park was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They were beaten by the Mallard Creek Mavericks 65-37. The Mustangs lost against the Mavericks in their previous head to head back in December of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 52-47 score last time.

Despite the loss, Myers Park saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Amani Barner went 5 for 10 on her way to 12 points and five rebounds. Barner is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. Brielle Hopkins was another key player, putting up ten points.

Mallard Creek was led to victory by Elle Stone and Kiara Anderson. Stone went 10 of 23 on her way to 26 points along with seven steals and six boards, while Anderson went 6 of 13 on her way to 19 points in addition to eight steals and five assists. Another player making a difference was My?Asia Young, who posted nine points and eight boards.

Myers Park's defeat dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Mallard Creek, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-1.

Myers Park didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 35-33 loss against Concord Academy on the 14th. As for Mallard Creek, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 49-24 victory against West Charlotte on the 17th.
