Baseball Recap: Make It Four in a Row for Independence

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Independence). They blew past the Hickory Flat Rebels 20-3 on Thursday. With that win, the Wildcats brought their scoring average up to 7.8 runs per game.

Kaleb Kitchen and Braylon Davis made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Kitchen pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Davis tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (two). At the plate, Kitchen went 2-for-4 with four runs and two stolen bases, while Davis went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Austin Eddie was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. What's more, he posted two hits, the most he's had since back in April of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of Rick Golden, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs and three RBI.

Independence kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hickory Flat only managed eight.

The victory was the fourth in a row for Independence, bringing their record up to 4-2. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Hickory Flat, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Independence will host Rosa Fort at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The Wildcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Lions have averaged an impressive 8.2 runs per game this season. As for Hickory Flat, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Wheeler at 7:00 p.m.
