The Marion Giants will square off against the Mississinewa Indians at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Marion has struggled recently with nine defeats in a row, while Mississinewa will arrive with six straight wins.
Marion lost 12-2 to Blackford on Friday. That's two games in a row now that the Giants have lost by exactly ten runs.
Jasmine Weaver made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles. Another player making a difference was Jayonna Davis, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run.
Meanwhile, it can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Mississinewa had no problem doing just that on Monday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Bulldogs a 19-0 shutout. Considering the Indians have won seven matches by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Lilah Greer made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two).
In other batting news, Mississinewa let Amiyaa Parr-Inman and Jarrah Tegarden run wild. Parr-Inman went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI, while Tegarden went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most runs Tegarden has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaci Crick, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.
Marion's loss dropped their record down to 5-18. As for Mississinewa, their victory bumped their record up to 18-4.
Marion might still be hurting after the 11-0 defeat they got from Mississinewa in their previous matchup back in April. Can the Giants avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
