SEFFNER, Fla. - After taking the lead in the fourth quarter,
Armwood (Seffner, Fla.) held on for a 19-8 victory over
King (Tampa, Fla.) on Saturday. The difference for the Hawks was
Alfonso Thornton ran for a touchdown.
After trailing 3-0 at the half, the Lions went ahead on a
Dezrick Ingram touchdown run with under a minute left in the third. Armwood finally took the lead for good as Thornton ran for a touchdown with 5:00 to go in the fourth quarter.
Thornton was the top performer for AHS. The sophomore running back ran for one touchdown. He has now scored two touchdowns on the season.
Ingram played well for King. The senior ran for one touchdown.
KHS's lone touchdown came on a run by Ingram in the third quarter.
The Seffner school had given up an average of 12.7 points prior to the contest. The Tampa school's eight points were below its season average of 14.6 per game.
The victory was a step in the right direction for the Hawks, which was coming off a 20-19 defeat at the hands of Plant in its previous game.
King (3-7) goes up against Durant when it takes the field next week. The Cougars go into the week with a record of 8-0.
