The Lafayette Central Catholic Knights will head out on the road to face off against the Covington Trojans at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Lafayette Central Catholic focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Saturday.
Last Saturday, Lafayette Central Catholic was beaten by Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory 66-34. While losing is never fun, Lafayette Central Catholic can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 119th, while Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory is ranked 25th).
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Ray Clayton, who scored 9 points. Another player making a difference was Nick Page, who scored 7 points.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Covington's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They fell just short of McCutcheon by a score of 46-44. Covington has struggled against McCutcheon recently, as their contest on Saturday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Coye Ferguson, who scored 9 points along with 10 rebounds. Kolten Haymaker was another key contributor, scoring 10 points.
Their wins bumped Lafayette Central Catholic to 2-2 and Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory to 4-1.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Lafayette Central Catholic have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 23 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Covington struggles in that department as they've been even better at 31.7 per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out. Lafayette Central Catholic strolled past Covington when the teams last played back in December of 2022 by a score of 50-35. The rematch might be a little tougher for Lafayette Central Catholic since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
