The Decatur Golden Gators will square off against the Auburn Mountainview Lions at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Decatur is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 12 runs per game this season.
Decatur will roll into the match after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Monday, then bounced right back against Federal Way on Tuesday. The Golden Gators put the hurt on the Eagles with a sharp 15-4 win. The Golden Gators haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.
Jordyn Davis-Thompson was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Audrey Deviney, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
Decatur always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, after a string of six wins, Auburn Mountainview's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They came up short against Enumclaw, falling 7-1. The Lions were red-hot at the plate heading into the contest (they scored no less than ten runs in the six games prior), but the Hornets' pitchers proved too tough.
Auburn Mountainview saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mia Heigh, who went 2-for-3 with one double.
Auburn Mountainview's loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 6-1 and their overall record down to 8-3. As for Decatur, their win bumped their record up to 4-2.
Thursday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Decatur has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .465. However, it's not like Auburn Mountainview struggles in that department as they've averaged .546. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Decatur beat Auburn Mountainview 9-5 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Do the Golden Gators have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Lions turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
