On Saturday, Walhalla beat Christchurch School 54-44. Given Walhalla's advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 34th in South Carolina, while Christchurch School is ranked 162nd in Virginia), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Walhalla to victory, but perhaps none more so than Marnie Baxter, who scored 15 points along with six steals and five rebounds. The matchup was Baxter's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Annie Campbell, who scored 15 points.
Despite the loss, Christchurch School still got an impressive performance from Khoudia Diagne, who scored 23 points. Those 23 points set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Carmen Navarrete, who scored ten points.
Walhalla has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. As for Christchurch School, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-6.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Walhalla will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Daniel at 6:00 p.m. on January 5th. As for Christchurch School, they will challenge St. Stephen's & St. Agnes at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
