The Los Alamos Hilltoppers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fourth straight defeat. They fell 54-45 to Espanola Valley. Los Alamos was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Sundevils apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2023.
Despite the loss, Los Alamos still got an impressive performance from Josiah Fresquez, who scored 20 points along with six rebounds. Niko Garcia was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Los Alamos' defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 6-13. As for Espanola Valley, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a massive bump to their 9-12 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Los Alamos' road trip will continue as they head out to face the Elks/Elkettes at 7:00 p.m. on February 6th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in New Mexico (Pojoaque Valley is ranked 52nd, while the Hilltoppers are ranked 73rd). As for Espanola Valley, they will head out on the road to challenge the Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Taos and the Sundevils are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads.
