Jurupa Hills will face off against Central at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Jurupa Hills is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.3 runs per game this season.
Jurupa Hills barely beat San Gorgonio the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Jurupa Hills blew past San Gorgonio 10-1 on Friday. Jurupa Hills hasn't had any issues with San Gorgonio recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.
Casey Ard made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit over five innings pitched. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one triple.
In other batting news, Matthew Toscano was excellent, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Jose Plazola, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI.
Jurupa Hills kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Central suffered their closest loss since March 7th on Thursday. They fell just short of Calexico by a score of 6-4. The defeat continues a trend for the Spartans in their meetings with the Bulldogs: they've now lost six in a row.
Nico Viesca spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered six runs (all of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up nine Ks. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Central is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 6-9 otherwise.
On the hitting side, Central saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Diego Acuna, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base and one run. Silverio Bobadilla also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
Central's loss dropped their record down to 8-10. As for Jurupa Hills, their win bumped their record up to 14-4.
Saturday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Jurupa Hills hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .374. However, it's not like Central struggles in that department as they've averaged .324. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
