Conway has gone 10-0 against Socastee recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Conway Tigers will welcome the Socastee Braves at 7:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Conway has four straight wins, Socastee has seven straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the court.
Last Tuesday, Conway beat St. James 41-29. Given the Tigers' advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 15th, while the Sharks are ranked 74th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Conway got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Javion Crawford out in front who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 13 rebounds. Crawford continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Trevon Johnson, who posted 12 points and six boards.
Meanwhile, Socastee came up short against Myrtle Beach on Tuesday and fell 58-50.
Conway will have to contain Bryson Sams as he made an impact in Socastee's last game. He went 9 of 11 en route to 24 points in addition to eight rebounds and four steals. Sams is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. Christoper Ryan was another key player, putting up seven points.
Socastee's defeat dropped their record down to 7-9. As for Conway, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 15-3 record this season.
Friday's game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Johnson and Sams. Johnson has been dynamite this season: he has averaged 13 points, 3.4 steals, and 4.1 boards. For his part, Sams has averaged 19.8 points, 1.7 steals, and 6.6 rebounds.
Conway didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Socastee when the teams last played back in February of 2024, but they still walked away with a 42-37 win. Will Conway repeat their success, or does Socastee have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
