The St. John Woodchucks won the last time they faced the Benson County [Leeds/Maddock] Wildcats, and things went their way on Tuesday too. St. John sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 50-48 victory over Benson County [Leeds/Maddock].
St. John got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Aston Parisien out in front who scored 14 points along with three steals. Parisien is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Simon LaRocque, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds.
St. John's win bumped their record up to 2-3. As for Benson County [Leeds/Maddock], they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-5.
St. John will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Velva at 6:30 p.m. on December 30th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in North Dakota (Velva is ranked 75th, while St. John is ranked 63rd). Benson County [Leeds/Maddock] will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Cavalier at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Cavalier will be coming into the contest with an undefeated record on the line.
