The Merritt Island Mustangs will take on the George Jenkins Eagles in a tournament on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Merritt Island comes in on three and George Jenkins on four.
Merritt Island's tournament run continued when they took on Evangelical Christian on Monday. Merritt Island came out on top against Evangelical Christian by a score of 5-2.
Liam Miller was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Nate Bailey, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.
Meanwhile, George Jenkins owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Monday. They walked away with a 3-0 win over Jensen Beach.
Not much got past Braden Smith, who gave up just three hits and racked up nine Ks to keep Jensen Beach off the board. Furthermore, Smith didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in February.
On the hitting side, George Jenkins saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kam Wilson, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base.
George Jenkins hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Jensen Beach struck out nine times.
George Jenkins' victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-5. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.0 runs on average over those games. As for Merritt Island, their win bumped their record up to 10-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Merritt Island has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like George Jenkins struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Merritt Island skirted past George Jenkins 8-7 when the teams last played back in February of 2015. Does Merritt Island have another victory up their sleeve, or will George Jenkins turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
