South El Monte is 0-8 against Arroyo since November of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The South El Monte Eagles will be playing in front of their home fans against the Arroyo Knights at 7:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
South El Monte put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their undefeated season alive. They took their match at home with ease, bagging a 35-7 win over Gabrielino. The matchup was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point South El Monte had established a 21 point advantage.
South El Monte's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Angel Valladares led the charge by rushing for 52 yards and three touchdowns. Another player making a difference was Matthew Medina, who threw for 228 yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Arroyo had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 42.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They claimed a resounding 63-14 victory over Mountain View on the road. With Arroyo ahead 56-0 at the half, the game was all but over already.
Arroyo relied on the efforts of Dillon Seguin, who threw for 95 yards and two touchdowns while completing 83.3% of his passes, and Kurt Dominguez, who picked up 46 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Romeo Arevalo also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
South El Monte's victory was their fourth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 8-0. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 37.0 points per game. Arroyo is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 4-4 record this season.
South El Monte was taken down by Arroyo 43-0 when the teams last played back in October of 2022. Will South El Monte have more luck at home instead of on the road?
