Firth is 6-1 against Bear Lake since April of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Cougars will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on the Bears at 3:00 p.m. Firth is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 13.2 runs per game this season.
On Saturday, Firth came up short against Melba and fell 7-4. The Cougars haven't had much luck with the Mustangs recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
Firth saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cooper Park, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI. Another was Brycen Andersen, who earned one RBI, one run, and one stolen base.
The home team had won the previous six meetings between Bear Lake and Preston, and Preston kept the tradition alive. The Bears took a 17-12 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Indians on Saturday.
Daxton Perkins was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryo Yoshimura, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
Bear Lake's defeat dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Firth, their loss dropped their record down to 2-2.
Wednesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Firth has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .459. However, it's not like Bear Lake struggles in that department as they've averaged .457. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Firth's way against Bear Lake in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, as Firth made off with a 13-3 win. Will the Cougars repeat their success, or do the Bears have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
