It was a good run, but the Broughton Capitals unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Wednesday. The contest between Broughton and South Garner wasn't particularly close, with Broughton falling 50-33. While losing is never fun, Broughton can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 332nd, while South Garner is ranked 58th).
Broughton's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Kendall Walpole, who scored six points along with eight rebounds, and Jane Kern who scored 13 points. Walpole hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for four straight games.
South Garner got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Tamia Darden out in front who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds. The match was Darden's seventh in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Makaylah Simmons, who scored ten points along with three steals.
Broughton's defeat dropped their record down to 3-6. As for South Garner, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 7-1.
Broughton won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Jordan on December 21, 2023. South Garner and NC GBB Academy National will face off at 12:00 p.m. on December 29, 2023 without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. One thing working in NC GBB Academy National's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three games.
