Two dominant in Brianna Bell and Tatiana Matthews are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Chiefland Indians will head out on the road to face off against the Dunnellon Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Dunnellon took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Chiefland, who comes in off a win.
Last Tuesday, Chiefland humbled Bronson with a 78-24 victory.
Chiefland's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Nyasia Bivins, who scored 17 points along with 8 rebounds and 5 steals. Bivins hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Riley Davies, who scored 14 points along with 4 steals.
Meanwhile, Dunnellon struggled with assists on Monday (Springstead had 1500% more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Dunnellon suffered a rough 70-50 defeat at the hands of Springstead. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Dunnellon came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 102nd, while Springstead is ranked 258th).
Dunnellon's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Matthews, who scored 19 points along with 9 rebounds and 3 steals, and Tony'ah Boggs who scored 11 points. The match was Matthews' fifth in a row with at least ten points.
The victory got Chiefland back to even at 3-3. As for Dunnellon, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-2.
Thursday's match is shaping up to be a scrappy matchup: Chiefland haven't given up the ball easily this season, having only averaged 0 turnovers per game. It's a different story for Dunnellon, though, as they've been averaging 23.2 per game. Given Chiefland's sizeable advantage in that area, Dunnellon will need to find a way to close that gap. Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
Chiefland was taken down by Dunnellon 66-24 in their previous meeting last Monday. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Dunnellon's Matthews, who dropped a triple-double on 29 points, 13 rebounds, and 10 steals. Now that Chiefland knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
