The Schenectady Patriots's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their sixth straight defeat. They were outmatched by Shaker at home and fell 63-34. While losing is never fun, Schenectady can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 473rd, while Shaker is ranked 48th).
Leading Shaker to victory were Giada Lanni and Sofia Lanni. Lanni scored nine points along with five rebounds and three steals, while Lanni scored seven points along with five rebounds and two steals. Another player making a difference was Lexi Carrington, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine rebounds.
Shaker used a slightly different lineup for their bout with Schenectady. Three players got more time on the court than they're used to: Sadia Temple (13), Andrea Camara (ten), and Mahala Rootes (13). The trio had averaged 5.86, 4.2, and 6.93 minutes respectively before Friday's match. Rootes made the most of the opportunity, scoring four points. A few more games like that and she might be seeing even more time going forward.
Schenectady's loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 1-16. As for Shaker, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season.
Schenectady will head out on the road to face off against Ballston Spa at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Shaker does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
