Paw Paw is 0-8 against Pendleton County since April of 2016 but things could change on Friday. The Pirates will square off against the Wildcat at 6:00 p.m. Paw Paw has given up an average of 13.6 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Paw Paw came up short against Lighthouse Christian Academy on Monday, falling 12-4.
Tomy Santos put in work no matter where he played. He struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and only one walk). Santos was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Nathan Dick and Taylor Carder did some serious damage despite the final result: Dick went 2-for-3 with two doubles, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Carder went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Those doubles were Dick's first of the season.
Meanwhile, Pendleton County didn't have quite enough to beat Berkeley Springs on Monday and fell 13-12.
Like Paw Paw, Pendleton County also got a great game from a two-way player: Travis Owens. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Owens has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double. Pendleton County is 2-1 when Owens posts two or more stolen bases, but 8-10 otherwise.
In other batting news, Jaxon Simon was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Cashton Kisamore, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.
Paw Paw's record now sits at 1-8. As for Pendleton County, they now have a losing record of 10-11.
Paw Paw might still be hurting after the 14-0 loss they got from Pendleton County in their previous meeting back in March. Can the Pirates avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
